Elevator Music in the modern era

Elevator music has been in existence ever since the time of the elevator. In those days elevators offered a very noisy ride. This continued even fifty years after the elevator was introduced. Later on, it was observed that piped in music subtly covered the rattling and squeaking of the elevators, calming the nerves of the occupants in the elevator.

It was not until General George Squier created a new technology for the military that was capable of carrying music along with messaging. What he did not realize at that time was that he had stumbled upon something that much bigger and beyond times. In fact, this was the initial stages of what we call elevator music.

Today, elevator music is synonymous with Muzak. An in depth research analysis displayed that when instrument music was used subtly in the background it improved the performance levels at the workplace quite substantially.  This company worked with various employers to find out the perfect combination of music, tempo, mood and ambience. Initially, the music was played out in fifteen minute loops giving the employees a feeling of moving forward.

The last few decades has witnessed various changes in the concept of elevator music. However, the purpose remains the same, to calm down your mind and soothe your nerves.
