Last but not least - The production music

The background music plays a key role in the commercials, promos and TV dramas. We all should agree that it is an integral part of the project and cannot be expected of poor quality. The background music is called production music.

In general there is a fixed amount to be paid for the license depending on the type, length and the territory of the music. Some companies would make a collection of such music and provide them to TV shows, radio shows and to any other media. It is called as library music. Production music has evolved from the library music.

Library music is often considered as inferior and cheaply produced background music. As the importance of production music is becoming more and more these days in the industry, the demand for the quality of the music is also increasing. The quality of the music is mainly to compete with the existing pop tracks.

Production music does not offer much variety of musical styles. But libraries have hundreds to thousands of the tracks depending upon the suitability of the track it is chosen as the background music for the show.

Libraries own the complete copyrights of their music. The work done in the libraries is on a work for hire basis. Therefore production music is convenient solution for the media producers where as work done specially could be expensive.
